Regular Shelf vs. Single Barrel vs. Private Barrel

Batch Whiskey aka Regular on the Shelf:

Many of the whiskeys on your typical store shelf are bottled in batches. A fun term that distillers enjoy tossing around is small Batch. The more smaller batches can differ from batch to batch. The larger the number of barrels used in a batch, the more consistent the taste will be from bottle to bottle, year after year. So you can guarantee that same bottle is going to taste the same as the one you bought last month.

Single Barrel Whiskey:

Single Barrel Whiskey comes from one barrel. Each whiskey is different because each barrel is different. With a standard single barrel whiskey, the distillery is in control. The distillery controls what barrel is bottled. The distillery chooses how much to proof it down, and thus how many bottles are offered. Then it goes to a distributor and shipped to various stores. These bottles come from the same barrel and can wind up all over the country, making them highly sought after and more limited in number.

Private Barrel Whiskey aka STORE PICKS:

The Private Barrel goes a few steps beyond the Single Barrel. Instead of the distillery choosing the barrel, the taste, and the proof, the purchaser of the barrel controls the decision, making it a one-of-a-kind, unique, and rare gift.

Corners Private Barrel Selection Process

With our Corners Private Barrel selection, we take great care in making sure we choose, sample, and select the right barrel to represent our store and our community. With each private barrel we choose, we assemble a team of experts to do the pickin’; bringing management, staff, owners and even some of our most knowledgeable customers, along for the ride. After the team is assembled, we send them to the distillery, where they hand-select, taste, and deliberate from a wide-range of barrels from each distillery in order to find the one single barrel that feels right for Corners.

After we select the barrel, its pulled from the shelf and packaged exclusively for our store, with our name on it. It’s exclusively sold at our store, in limited quantity (only so much bourbon you can pull from one barrel).
